Friends of Film help Emory’s Film Studies Department bring an outstanding array of international films (about 50 annually) and filmmakers and scholars (several each year) to campus. Friends support the best 35-millimeter film repertory programming in the region through the free, public Emory Cinematheque Series. Contributions by Friends support programming, which enables ongoing exploration of film’s power to provide insight into other lives and cultures—and our own. Friends benefits include exclusive opportunities to meet filmmakers and film faculty and scholars.
Visiting speakers in recent years have included: David Bordwell, Donald Bogle, Lester Friedman, Molly Haskell, Richard Maltby, Patrick McGilligan, John McKay, Charles Musser, Richard Neupert, R. Barton Palmer, Murray Pomerance, A.O. Scott, Jacqueline Stewart, Michael Sragow. Visiting filmmakers have included Todd Field, Dariush Mahjuri, Deepa Mehta, Ross McElwee and Mira Nair.
